If you were going to learn about something, let’s say cars, would you ask your Uncle Sal or your neighbor that runs a body shop? Seems like a dumb question, but I have a point.
Beginners or seasoned professionals in the world of fitness will feel at home in Claremore’s newest gym. Flex Fitness, a new 24-hour gym for men and women, employs fitness experts of varying backgrounds. Co-owner Darrin Shanholtzer is a certified personal trainer. Gym manager Nicholas Schrader and fitness instructor Felicia Hewitt have both competed in bodybuilding competitions in their respective categories.
Flex Fitness was a longtime dream of business partners Darrin Shanholtzer and husband-wife duo Brandon and Janis Hanes. After putting together a plan of what they would want in a gym and taking the proper steps, it was time to make it a reality.
“I always wanted to own my own gym and I thought that this end of town really needed a 24-hour place for everyone,” said Shanholtzer.
Flex Fitness celebrated their grand opening on April 9th and business is good! They are currently accepting new members and are happy to show you around the facility during regular business hours. (Monday-Friday 10AM-7PM and Saturday from 12-4PM)
Flex Fitness plans to offer more and more classes in the near future. You do not have to be a member to join the classes, but preregistering is required. Their first official class, “Booty Camp” has already reached max capacity at 10. Fitness Guide Felicia Hewitt explained that the classes will be small so that more attention can be paid to individuals for better results. (No slacking, ladies.)
“Think of it as small group training, not an aerobics class,” said Hewitt.
She also pointed out the diversity of the new equipment at the gym. Everything from power lifting, squat racks and cable machines to the ever popular dumbbells. (They also have treadmills, rowing machines and a big giant tire.)
“We have all new equipment that allows people of varying levels to get a full body workout without even touching a free weight,” said Hewitt.
Gym manager Nicholas Schrader also added, “We even have a small place for kids so their parents can keep an eye on them during workouts.” (Not a babysitter, but a nice touch for you working parents.)
Flex Fitness has taken pride in creating a clean and functional facility that will help you transform into the best possible version of you. They are located at 1604 N. Lynn Riggs Ave in Claremore, in the shopping center near Dollar General and the opposite end from Cedar Point Church.
